A COD PIECE
Since the fifteenth century the cod has spawned over a wide
area of the continental shelf.
Even today a cod piece is
matter of some
delicacy. A cod piece is often con
-spicuous and ornamented. It
possesses a large
head and bellied
appendage. The colour of a
cod piece varies depending on the type of
bottom it inhabits. It
may be various
shades of grey to green or brown
to red. The sides and back are
liberally mottled with round
brown to red spots and the
lateral line is noticeably
paler than the rest of
the body. The und
erside is whitish
The flesh of
the
codpiece is sold
fresh smoked
salted canned
and frozen
In
the primitive
culture it is
frequently
battered
